On February 24, 1815, from the tower of Notre-Dame de la Garde, the three-masted ship, the Pharaon, was sighted arriving from Smyrna, Trieste and Naples.
The pilot, as usual, quickly left the port, skirting the Château d'If to board the ship between Cape Morgion and the island of Rion.
The platform of Fort Saint-Jean was filled with curious people, as usually happens when a ship, like the Pharaon, built, equipped and loaded in the shipyards of ancient Phocaea and owned by a local shipowner, arrives in Marseille.
